LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- Longtime residents in a small Westchester hamlet like their peace and quiet. Goldens Bridge, a hamlet in Lewisboro, has experienced many changes over the years, but it remains a rural haven for those looking to get away from it all.

Goldens Bridge was founded as a small farming town and a summer vacation spot for New York City dwellers. The quick commute to the city by railroad and the production of fresh produce made the hamlet swell during the late 1800's.

The turn-of-the-century brought many changes to Goldens Bridge: New York City first built its Croton Reservoir in the hamlet, and later came Interstate 684, which sliced through the town's business district and occupied sought-after farmland. Though these changes connected country commuters to the big city, residents feared these changes would affect the charmingly rural way of life.

While Goldens Bridge no longer remains a produce production hub, the town has remained a peaceful and quiet neighborhood, even as surrounding Westchester has developed. Minimal retail and commercial businesses have developed up in the years since the arrival of Metro-North and highway, and shopping is largely confined to several small stores along Route 22. However, residents wouldn't have it any other way.

Today, Goldens Bridge tallies over 1,600 residents and offers beautiful homes in four districts. Some of the town's most sought-after properties are located at Arbor Hills, a 28-year-old development of modern and diverse listings. 10 Cornel Drive in Arbor Hills is a brick Colonial built in 1993, featuring a new kitchen, screen porch and an office space. The secluded property offers 1.5 acres and an outdoor patio. Priced for $995,000 by Joan Keating of William Raevis Real Estate, this listing, and others in the area remain tranquil and secluded, just as Goldens Bridge has been since its inception.
