Man Found Burning Near Busy Roadway In Fairfield County
A man lying horizontally was found burning after police in Fairfield County responded to a call for a possible fire near a popular park. The incident took place in New Canaan around 8:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10 in the area of Lapham Road near Waveny Park. Preliminary evidence "does support that this incident is most likely a suicide," New Canaan Police said. Quick Work Of Firefighters Saves Westchester Home
Quick action by firefighters from the Vista and South Salem fire departments saved a family's home following a basement fire. The fire started around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 87 East St., in South Salem, according to Vista Fire Chief Jeff Peck. Once on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from inside the home and quickly determined the fire was coming from the basement. After running hoses, firefighters were able to knock down the fire within minutes, Peck said. The identity has been released of a Westchester woman whose body was found under a vehicle at around noontime Tuesday in New Canaan, police said. The New Canaan Police, New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corp and New Canaan Fire Department were dispatched to a residence on South Bald Hill Road on a report of an individual that had been discovered pinned underneath a vehicle and not responsive. Driver Extricated After Tree Falls On Pickup Truck In New Canaan
New Cannan firefighters were able to save a pickup truck driver after a tree fell right on his windshield, trapping him in the vehicle.The incident happened around 3 p.m., March 2 when the driver was on Canoe Hill Road, said New Cannan Fire Chief Jack Hennessey. The driver was able to be pulled out by firefighters using the jaws of life, the chief said. "Luckily, considering how severe the accident was, the driver received non-life threatening injuries," Hennessey said.
