Man Sentenced For Murdering Ex-Girlfriend's Daughter In Hudson Valley
A Hudson Valley man has been sentenced for stabbing his ex-girlfriend's daughter to death.
Dutchess County resident Paul Senecal, age 39, of the city of Poughkeepsie, was sentenced on Monday, April 10, to life in prison without the possibility of parole, said Dutchess County Chief Assistant District Attorney, Matthew Weishaupt.
Senecal was convicted by a jury in February of murder in the first degree, and two counts of murder in the second degree, along with other charges in the stabbing death of Melanie Chianese, age 29, in her town of Wappinger home, Weishaupt said.

Dutchess County native Patrick Ian Sullivan, of Poughkeepsie, died on Wednesday, July 6 at MidHudson Regional Hospital.
Sullivan, who was employed by the Dutchess County Department of Public Works as a bridge maintainer, was born in Poughkeepsie on March 17, 1993, in the middle of a snowstorm, his obituary said.

Police have identified a truck driver who was killed after crashing into a popular lounge and music venue in the Hudson Valley.
Dutchess County resident Craig Allen Dickson, age 33, of Hopewell Junction, was killed around 10:40 a.m., Monday, June 20 when his 2020 Peterbilt tractor-trailer crashed into Junior's Lounge in the town of Poughkeepsie.

Arrest Made In Main Street Murder In Hudson Valley
Police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a Hudson Valley man at a city grocery store and the wounding of another man.
The incident took place in Dutchess County in the City of Poughkeepsie, around 4:32 a.m., on Saturday, June 18, at the Casablanca Grocery located at 386 Main St.
Arriving officers found Atiba Proverbs, age 27, of the City of Poughkeepsie, shot multiple times, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark of the city of Poughkeepsie Police.
He was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he died of his wounds, Clark said.

Man Charged In Stabbing Death Of Hudson Valley Woman, Police Say
A Hudson Valley man has been charged with the stabbing death of an area woman.
The murder took place in Dutchess County in the town of Wappinger around 5:40 p.m., on Sunday, May 29.
Paul J. Senecal, age 38, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Tuesday, May 31 in connection with the stabbing death of Melanie Chianese, age 29, of the town of Wappinger, said Capt. John Watterson, of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

Man Critical After Lighting Himself On Fire Near Hudson River, Police Say
A man is in critical condition after pouring gasoline all over himself and setting himself on fire at an area park overlooking the Hudson River.
The incident took place around 2:20 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, in Dutchess County at Waryas Park in the City of Poughkeepsie, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark, of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
According to Clark, city 911 received multiple calls reporting a man set himself on fire near the shore at the park.
Responding officers found the victim, a 31-year-old Wappinger Falls man, with severe burns to his head, back, and arms, Clark said.

A Hudson Valley man was injured after allegedly attempting to pass two Department of Transportation trucks on the Taconic Parkway and flipping his vehicle.
Putnam County resident Rowan Thomas, age 24, of Mahopac, was injured around 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, while driving his 2019 Jeep Compass on the parkway in Lagrangeville, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks.
