The opening of the upgraded Mamaroneck River service area, located along the Hutchinson River Parkway between Exit 13 (Mamaroneck Avenue) and Exit 14 (North Street) in White Plains, was announced by the New York State Department of Transportation on Friday, March 8.

The renovated service area now has an expanded convenience store that still retains the original building's architectural features, which are meant to reflect the historic nature of the Hutchinson River Parkway, according to officials.

The larger store also features upgrades such as six self-checkout kiosks to make the shopping experience smoother.

Additionally, the service area now has expanded restroom facilities consisting of two six-person bathrooms and a separate family restroom, officials said.

The upgrades also benefit those who drive electric cars, as vehicle charging stations, including three EV fast chargers, are also being installed and are close to being completed.

To make sure a larger number of commuters can enjoy these upgraded facilities, the service area's parking spots have been increased from 18 to 51. There is still work to be done though, as the southbound ramp still temporarily leads from the service area to the parkway with bridge, paving, and curb work expected to be finished in the Summer of 2024.

Westchester officials praised the new upgrades.

"As New York State continues to invest in our County, the opening of the Mamaroneck River Service Area stands as a testament to our shared commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing traveler experiences," said County Executive George Latimer, who continued, "With upgraded services and improved vehicle circulation, this facility represents progress and convenience for all motorists passing through our vibrant city of White Plains."

White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach also commented, saying, "I would like to congratulate New York’s investment in the Mamaroneck River Service Area along the Hutchinson River Parkway. This service area benefits thousands of travelers daily."
