'Strong, Defiant': Former Deputy Commissioner Of Westchester Board Of Elections Dies At 67

A woman who was greatly involved in serving the citizens of Westchester County has died after a brave fight against health complications.

Jeannie Palazola of Yonkers died on Friday, Nov. 18 at the age of 67, according to her obituary

Born in 1955, Palazola was passionate about serving in government and politics and was a former Deputy Commissioner of the Westchester County Board of Elections, her obituary said. 

Palazola also served as a leader of the 12th Ward election district in Yonkers, as well as a Vice Chair for the Westchester County Democratic Committee, according to her obituary. 

In addition to her service in politics, Palazola also had a love for reading about history, space, science fiction, and mysteries, loved crafts and painting, as well as multicultural dining, with New York City's Chinatown being her favorite place to visit for "beef chow fun," her obituary said. 

A loving mother, Palazola was also known for doting over her two sons, three granddaughters, and her cats, even through her illness, according to her obituary. 

"She was strong and defiant in the face of several health complications and bravely fought to see her family after repeated hospital stays," her obituary said. 

Palazola is survived by her sons, Matthew and Kristian, and her granddaughters, Emma, Sadie, and Lila. 

A service for Palazola will be held on Monday, Nov. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Yonkers at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home located at 168 Park Ave. 

A mass of Christian burial will then be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in Yonkers at the Sacred Heart RC Church located at 110 Shonnard Pl., followed by internment from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bronx at Woodlawn Cemetery located at 233rd St. & Webster Ave.
