Costco, one of the largest retailers in the world is teaming with Shipt, an online grocery delivery service that will deliver door-to-door services to local residents, the company said in a statement earlier this week.
According to Shipt, it is launching its Costco delivery venture in Tampa, but plans to expand its app to 50 markets and more than 30 million customers by the end of the year. Whether or not Costco will remain an option on the app is contingent on the flagship venture in Florida, Shipt executives noted on Thursday.
The service, while convenient, won’t come cheap. Shipt has slapped a $99 annual fee on deliveries, that includes other participating local grocery stores. Once ordered, customers can schedule a one-hour window for the items to be dropped off, and the groceries will be delivered to the customers’ front door. Non-Costco members will reportedly be able to order through Shipt, regardless of being a card holder or not.
