'Serious' Crash Into Pole Hospitalizes Driver, Swatara Township Police Say A driver is in the hospital after crashing their vehicle into a pole, Swatara Township police announced Thursday, Aug. 15. Police got the call to the "serious motor vehicle accident" in the 5600 block of Derry Street at 3:09 a.m., as stated in the release.  Arriving officers found the vehicle crashed off of the north shoulder of the road.  The driver was taken to the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, their current status is unknown.  The preliminary investigation determined the vehicle had been going west on the road when they left it for an unknown reason.  The…

Guest Rapes Room Service At Courtyard Marriott In Central PA, Police Say A warrant has been issued for man accused of raping a hotel staff member at a Courtyard Marriott, Lower Allen Township police announced on Thursday, Aug. 15. Michael Thomas Cates, 28, of Millersville, used a false name when he checked into the Courtyard Marriott located at 4921 Gettysburg Road in Mechanicsburg, Lower Allen Township police explained. The police were called to the hotel to investigate the rape at 9:20 p.m. on Feb. 11, as detailed in the release. Unconscious Man Rescued From Roof In Lancaster County: Officials (Photos) Multiple fire companies worked together to rescue an unconscious man from the roof of a home on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14, the Witmer Fire Protective Association announced later that day.  The elderly man was found "not alert, stuck on top of a roof of a mobile home, and unable to get down," as stated in the release.  Members of Lafayette, Witmer, and Ronks fire companies, as well as Lancaster EMS, worked together to get the man down safely. It's unclear why the man was on the roof.

The cause of the car fire at a KFC drive-thru on Monday, Aug. 12, was not released when officials made a statement later that day.  The car caught fire at the KFC drive-thru window located at 6557 Carlisle Pike/PA Route 114 in Mechanicsburg in the area of Route 11 around 6 p.m. on Monday, according to the New Kingston Fire Company Chief Curtis Hall. Crews used a nearby hydrant to knock down the fire and clear the scene in under 45 minutes.  The fire did not spread to the building.
