Support Connection, a not-for-profit organization that provides support to women, their families and friends affected by breast and ovarian cancer, will hold their most important fundraiser at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights. The Annual Support-A-Walk charity event for Breast and Ovarian Cancer will take place on Sunday, Oct. 1.
During the Support-A-Walk, participants of all ages will complete a 3-mile walk as a tribute to those affected by breast and ovarian cancer. The day begins at a Survivor’s Welcome Area, where volunteers greet and welcome cancer survivors, and walkers are cheered along the course by local bands, cheerleaders and other community groups.
Proceeds from the Support-A-Walk provide funding for Support Connection’s year-round services, which helps those affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Founded in 1996, they are based in Yorktown Heights and offer programs both across the Hudson Valley and across the country to women in times of crisis. Each year, thousands of participants travel from across the region to take part in the inspiring and uplifting event, which featured more than 9,000 walkers in 2016.
Donations can be made by cash, check or online at the Support Connection website. Supporters can also raise funds by creating personal online fundraising pages, and messages of support, celebration or commemoration can be displayed along the path as well with $50 donations.
