Drone Captures Massive Mulch Fire As Crews Battle Blaze For Hours In Westchester
A massive mulch fire in Northern Westchester required drone support and hours of effort to contain as crews battled frigid conditions and a lack of hydrants, officials said. The fire began early Sunday, Dec. 8, when the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department was dispatched at around 12:30 a.m. for a reported brush fire on the Taconic State Parkway, according to fire officials. After searching the area, no fire was found on the parkway. Traffic Incident Shuts Down Roadway In Westchester: Developing
A traffic incident has resulted in part of a busy Northern Westchester route being closed in one direction. The incident happened in the area of Route 9A and Pleasantville Road in Briarcliff Manor, the village's fire department reported on Wednesday, July 26 around 4:45 p.m. As a result of the incident, access to Route 9A southbound in the area has been suspended. Officials said a fire that destroyed the Landmark Diner in Briarcliff Manor started in the ceiling while diners were inside the restaurant. The fire broke out around 9:45 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, while patrons were dining in the iconic restaurant located at at 265 Highland Ave., in Briarcliff Manor, said the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department. Woman Killed When Car, SUV Crash In Westchester
A 24-year-old Northern Westchester woman killed in a car crash on Sunday has been identified. Ruth Alexandra Cajamarca-Paccha of Ossining was killed around 7:42 a.m. Sunday during a head-on crash on Route 9 just south of Sleepy Hollow Road in Briarcliff Manor, said Mount Pleasant Police Capt. Michael Pierce. Cajamarca-Paccha was a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet Spark that collided with a 2016 Ford Explorer. A former fire chief in Westchester is facing a decade behind bars after admitting to embezzling more than $100,000 from the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department. Ossining resident Robert Garcia, 51, the former president and chief of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department pleaded guilty to the embezzlement of more than $120,000 from the fire department in White Plains federal court this week. Person Extricated In Head-On Crash At Route 100/9A Intersection
Two motorists and their passengers was hospitalized overnight after being extricated from his vehicle following a head-on collision with a second car in Briarcliff. Volunteers from the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department were dispatched to Route 100, near the Route 9A interchange, behind the bus depot late on Monday night, where there were reports of a head-on crash that left one person pinned in his vehicle.
