PELHAM, N.Y. Pelham Pizzeria and Ristorante manager John Ruffolo went to work inside Tuesday but couldnt escape the blistering heat outside.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Westchester County until 9 p.m. Tuesday and Ruffolo had to deal with heat inside his own establishment.
"Anytime you stand in front of a 600 degree oven, it's hot no matter what," Ruffolo said.
Ruffolo made sure the air conditioner in the pizzeria kept the place cool. He also turned on all the ceiling fans and had a fan plugged in behind the counter to keep the workers as cool as possible.
The machinery lowered the temperature, but Ruffolo said he had to sweat through the heat during the day.
The manager said business slowed a bit with the hot weather and suspected that some people had gone to the beach to enjoy the sunshine. But on a sweltering day like Tuesday, fewer customers actually made the pizzeria more comfortable.
"The less people that are in here, the cooler it is," Ruffolo said.
