Pelham Manor Police Arrest Two For Drug Possession

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – Pelham Manor police charged a 19-year-old boy and a female minor Saturday with unlawful possession of marijuana after they allegedly caught the two with the drug in the back of a parked car.

Police arrested and charged Arthur Chen of Woodside, N.Y. with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree and unlawful possession of marijuana. Chen also allegedly had ecstasy in his possession.

While on routine patrol, an officer saw a black Mazda 6 idling with two people in the rear. Police smelled what appeared to be burning marijuana.

The officer pulled behind the car with the police car’s lights on and saw what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette passing between the two people. Police approached the driver’s side door of the car on foot and noticed Chen in the rear passenger seat fumbling with his hands around his waist.

Police spoke with the two, who produced valid identification. Both appeared nervous, according to the police report. Chen’s eyes also appeared glassy.

The officer asked about the smell of marijuana, at which point the female picked up her right foot and showed the officer a partially smoked marijuana cigarette wrapped in brown tobacco paper. Police asked the two to step out of the car and arrested them for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Police searched Chen and found a plastic playing card case behind his belt buckle and jeans in front of his underwear. The case contained a partially smoked white and brown marijuana cigarette and a glassine bag with three clear pills containing a white powder.

The case also contained some crushed blue pills, four clear pills with a white powder and one jack of clubs playing card.

Police asked Chen what the drugs were and Chen replied, “A little bit of ecstasy.”

Officers processed the two. The minor is due in court on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. for the unlawful possession of marijuana charge. Chen is due in court at the same time for that charge and the charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree.

Police left messages for both town justices in Pelham. Officers collected evidence and searched the vehicle, which is owned by the minor’s mother. A search of the car found no further important items.
