19-Year-Old's Illegal Passing Caused Dump Truck Rollover On Highway In Region, Cops Say
A teen’s reckless driving caused a dump truck to roll over, sent two people to the hospital, and shut down a Hudson Valley highway for hours, police said.
The wreck happened in Ulster County just after noon Friday, Aug. 19, on Old Kings Highway in Saugerties, police said.
Investigators determined that 19-year-old Liam Browne, of Saugerties, was heading southbound in a Jeep Compass when he attempted to pass the dump truck in a no-passing zone near Dave Elliott Road.
At the time, the dump truck was pulling a trailer loaded with a skid steer and paving machine.

Police ID Victims In Double-Fatal Hudson Valley Crash
State Police have released the identities of two Hudson Valley residents who were killed during a two-vehicle crash that also injured six others.
Orange County residents Nelson Vivarcampoverde, age 48, and passenger Maria Abrigo, age 36, both from Middletown, were killed around 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, following the crash on Route 17 in Wallkill, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
The crash involved a 2005 Ford Escape operated by Orange County resident Anthony K. Jones, age 24, of Walden, and a 2004 Toyota Sienna, operated by Vivarcampoverde.

Large Bear Killed After Being Struck By Two Vehicles In Connecticut
A large black bear was killed after being hit by two vehicles on Route 202 in Connecticut.
The crash took place around 9:30 p.m., Friday, May 30, in Litchfield County, on Route 202 in the Town of Litchfield, near the Torrington line, said Will Healy with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
There were no major injuries to the drivers of the vehicles, the bear was deceased upon DEEP EnCon Police arriving at the scene, Healy said.
The bear was untagged and uncollared, estimated to be between 175-200 pounds.

One Dies After Three-Vehicle Northern Westchester Crash, State Police Say
A Connecticut man has died three days after a three-vehicle crash in the Hudson Valley on Route 22.
The crash took place on Monday, April 26, on Route 22 in Putnam County in the town of Southeast when a driver struck a vehicle while passing cars on the shoulder of the roadway, said Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 2008 Honda CRV operated by, Ricardo Bregante, age 57, of Carmel, was traveling north on Route 22 passing to the right of vehicles on the shoulder of the road, Hicks said.
