The Washington Commanders are officially coming home. The DC City Council voted 11-2 late on Wednesday, Sept. 17 to give the final approval for a $3.8 billion project to build a 65,000-seat stadium at the old RFK Stadium site. Survey Reveals How Americans Are Coping With Rising Costs As Housing Leads Way
Americans are rethinking what “affordable housing” means as rising costs force families to adjust, according to a new national survey. The poll of 1,000 adults found more than half believe they pay too much for their homes. Respondents reported spending an average of 42 percent of their annual income on housing-related expenses. This Interactive Map Shows Where Rats Are In NYC With 38 Percent Population Increase In 5 Years
New York City residents have been forced to welcome some unwanted visitors in the neighborhood as the rat population continues to soar. Since 2014, rat sightings are up 38 percent, according to watchdog site OpenTheBooks.com. There were 12,617 sightings reported in 2014, a number which has jumped to 17,353 just four years later. In response to the growing population, Open the Books, a nonprofit organization, has created an interactive map to allow area residents to see each reported rat sighting in their current or prospective neighborhood. White Plains' longest-serving mayor, Alfred Del Vecchio, has died. Del Vecchio died early on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Del Vecchio, who served four terms in office from 1976 to 1993, “guided the city through the process of urban renewal, which changed the face of the central business district,” current White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach said. Iona College officials have reached an agreement with the city to drop pending litigation and begin the process of a multi-million dollar expansion of two of its buildings. The City of Mount Vernon and the developer of a multi-million dollar, 159-unit affordable housing complex have reached a settlement that will clear the way for the La Porte development in the heart of the city. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas announced the dismissal of a lawsuit by developer Peter Fine of Manhattan-based Blue Rio LLC, who agreed to pay the city $300,000 and issued a public apology to Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas. Prime Vacant Office Space Soars To 62 Percent In Northern Westchester
According to the latest quarterly report by JLL, the vacancy rate for office space has hit 62 percent in Northern Westchester, more than three times higher than submarkets in southern Westchester, which have a combined vacancy rate of approximately 20 percent.
