As a record number of Americans prepare to travel for the holiday season, more cashless tolls are coming to the New York Thruway in the Hudson Valley. The New York State Thruway Authority announced that the toll plazas on I-95 in New Rochelle and I-87 in Spring Valley will soon be outfitted with cashless tolling technology. Traffic is being diverted on Route 44 as a two-alarm fire ripped through the Pleasant Valley Free Library on Main Street. The fire, which began around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, is believed to have started in the basement, but the building quickly became engulfed in smoke, with smoke coming out of the top of the building. Three-Alarm Eastchester Seven-Story Blaze Forces Garth Road Closure
Numerous Westchester and surrounding fire departments are battling a three-alarm fire in Eastchester that has closed a major roadway, according to Eastchester Police. The fire started around 11 a.m. Monday at the seven-story Garth Wood Cooperative complex at 235 Garth Road, Eastchester. Would-Be Jumper On NY Thruway Shuts Down Traffic, Causes Gridlock In Area
A man who climbed a sign on the New York Thruway threatening to jump has been removed and is now in custody. The incident took place around after 3:30 p.m. Monday when the unidentified man climbed the sign along I-87 at Scotland Hill Road in Spring Valley, confirmed the New York State Police. Traffic was shut down in both directions, causing gridlock, as police and first responders worked to remove the man from the sign, police said. Monthslong Exit Ramp Closure Announced For Bronx River Parkway
A busy Bronx River Parkway exit will be closed for several months in Westchester as contracting crews prepare to ramp up a bridge repair project near Tuckahoe. The Tuckahoe Police Department issued an alert to area residents cautioning that beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Elm Street northbound exit ramp will be closed and will not reopen until Dec. 24 as work begins to repair the bridge at the end of the exit. This story has been updated. The Tuesday evening commute was a crawl for many in the area after a day filled with showers, heavy rain and flooding. Stretches of four of the most traveled parkways in the area were closed late Tuesday afternoon due to flooding and a crash on northbound I-684 blocked two lanes for about an hour. There will be lane closures on the Taconic State Parkway as contracting crews perform maintenance work in the area. The New York State Department of Transportation announced that there will be single lane closures and traffic slowdowns on the parkway between exit 45 (Noxon Road) and Exit 47A (Route 55 East) in LaGrange. Motorcyclist Injured In Route 7 Crash
This story has been updated. There were stop-and-go delays on a stretch of Route 7 in Fairfield County early Sunday after a crash involving a motorcycle. The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. on northbound Route 7 near Route 202/Federal Road in Brookfield. The extent of the motorcyclist's injuries were not immediately released.
