Sailboat In Distress, Missing Swimmer Both Saved Off Westchester Coast On Same Day Police responded to two marine emergencies off the Westchester coast on the same evening.  The first call came in on Thursday evening, July 17, reporting a sailboat in distress off of Manursing Island, the City of Rye Police Department said on Friday, July 18.  Rye Bay Constables soon found the vessel and assisted a sailor in need of help. The boat was safely towed to Port Chester Harbor, where the sailor was evaluated by EMS and declined medical attention. Shortly after resolving that incident, Rye authorities received a report of a missing swimmer in the area of Playland Cove. …

4 Rescued After Sailboat Overturns On Long Island Sound Emergency responders from two counties teamed up to rescue several people after a sailboat overturned on the Long Island Sound. The incident happened around 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 Marine 7 of the Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau Unit responded for reports of an overturned sailboat.  With the assistance of the Westchester Police Department, all four occupants were removed from the water and the sail boat was towed to shore by Town of North Hempstead Bay Constable.  The FDNY Marine Bureau was also at scene.  There were no injuries reported.

New Rochelle Police officers responded in Marine I to Davenport Reef on the Long Island Sound at approximately 6:44 p.m. on Monday, May 31, when a 27-foot sailboat struck a rock and took on water. Police said that the captain of the sailboat was able to navigate the boat toward the Davenport Beach Club and began capsizing approximately 100 yards off the shore. The incident took place around 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, when the Dutchess County 911 Center received a report of a capsized sailboat on the Hudson River off the Town of Hyde Park shoreline, said Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Lt. Shawn A.
