A popular Republican lawmaker in Northern Westchester announced that he will be stepping away from his current position at the end of the year as he seeks a state Assembly seat. Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater, age 36, who was re-elected for a second term in an uncontested election in November, says he will challenge for the seat currently held by Republican Kevin Byrne in the 94th State Assembly District this year. Additional relief is coming for some Hudson Valley victims of Tropical Depression Ida following a disaster declaration due to the damage caused by the storm. New York Gov. Play ball! All schools in Putnam County will be closed next week after County Executive MaryEllen Odell issued a state of emergency order. The order, issued Friday, March 13, takes effect at 12 a.m. Monday, March 16. It lasts until Friday, March 27 at 11:59 p.m. All public and private schools will be closed for an initial period of Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20 as part of the order. Work has begun on a near $11 million Route 6 bridge replacement project. New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez announced that construction has begun on a $10.9 million project in Putnam County to replace the bridge over the Metro-North Railroad’s Harlem Line in Brewster and Southeast. A positive case of measles has been confirmed in Putnam and possible exposure sites have been identified. The county's Department of Health made the announcement on Monday, Oct. 1. "The patient has been isolated to avoid spreading the disease further," the department said in a statement. Know Anything? Reward Offered After ATVs Damage Putnam Golf Course
A $1,000 reward has been offered by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office after two people drove ATVs on the Putnam County Golf Course.The golf course was able to capture video footage of the culprits riding red ATVs on the property. “We cannot allow individuals to misuse the golf course at the expense of the taxpayers," County Executive MaryEllen Odell said.
