Update: 800-Plus Killed, Thousands More Injured After Horrific Earthquake In Afghanistan
A powerful nighttime earthquake tore through eastern Afghanistan, flattening homes and triggering frantic rescues as the death toll climbed into the hundreds. The Taliban-led government said on Monday, Sept. 1, that at least 800 people were killed and more than 2,800 injured after the 6.0-magnitude quake struck near the Pakistan border. The tremor caused casualties and damage in Nangarhar province, which includes Jalalabad, and the neighboring provinces of Kunar and Laghman. About 100 Afghan Students To Attend College In Hudson Valley
About 100 students are set to relocate from Afghanistan to continue their studies at a Hudson Valley college. Bard College, located in Dutchess County, announced plans to accept nearly 100 students from the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul at its Annandale, Simon's Rock and Berlin campuses. The college said 70 students were accepted to the Annandale and Simon's Rock campuses so far. Five students have arrived, and more students are set to arrive in mid-January.
