Few refer to the new Tappan Zee Bridge by its official name of the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, just as few called the old bridge by its designated name, the Malcolm Wilson Bridge, honoring another former New York governor. Long-Awaited Resurfacing Project Starts On Putnam Roadways
There may be delays, loud noises and “general frustrations” on several busy Putnam County roadways as highway crews begin an extensive project that is expected to last several weeks. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department issued an alert this week regarding a "long-awaited" milling and resurfacing project from Route 6 to Route 52 and Route 6 to Route 312 that is scheduled to begin on June 11. Girder Work Starts On New TZB, Leading To I-87 Lane Closures
The latest round of lane and ramp closures near the new Tappan Zee Bridge have been announced as crews continue working on the Rockland and Westchester landings. Beginning on Monday night, May 7, crews from Tappan Zee Constructors will begin preparation for the installation of steel girders and concrete deck panels for the bridge over River Road at the Rockland landing. Cuomo Returns To Puerto Rico, Checking On Hurricane Repairs, Rebuilding
Gov. Andrew Cuomo made a return trip to Puerto Rico to check on rebuilding efforts and lashed out at the federal government for not doing enough for residents there. New York State Department of Transportation crews are set to begin work in earnest on a multi-million dollar bridge replacement project on I-84 in Dutchess County. New York State Department of Transportation Acting Commissioner Paul Karas announced on Wednesday that construction has kicked off on a $15.8 million project to remove and replace the eastbound and westbound bridges carrying I-84 over the Metro-North Railroad lines in Fishkill. Lane, Ramp Closures Near New Tappan Zee Bridge Announced
A new round of overnight lane and ramp closures near the new Tappan Zee Bridge have been announced as crews continue working on the Westchester landing. Beginning on Friday, Tappan Zee Constructors will continue installing new precast concrete slabs near the Westchester landing, which will create a new base roadway for the twin-span crossing’s connection to the New York State Thruway, according to officials. I-84 Bridge Work Starts
Work is underway on an extensive, multi-million dollar project to rehabilitate the Interstate 84 bridge over Route 9W in Newburgh. The $14.7 million project will raise the height of the overpass from 14 to 16 feet at the interchange. The funding was awarded by the New York State Bridge Authority in late February. During construction - which is expected to last for nearly two years - will be done two lanes at a time, from south to north, and is expected to be completed in 2020. Cost Of New Tappan Zee Bridge May Be $1 Billion Over Budget, Report Says
The new Tappan Zee Bridge may come in at a final cost of more than $4 billion dollars, nearly $1 billion above the base contract, according to a recently released Politico report. Contractors may be seeking upwards of $900 million in claims against the Thruway Authority, according to the report, on top of the $3.142 billion base contract, which exceeds the $548 million that had originally been budgeted for contingencies, though that number is reportedly expected to shrink.
