Super Soaker: Downpours Could Cause Flash Flooding
It's one wet mess. A storm bringing drenching rain with downpours and a chance of flash flooding has arrived, and the question now is how long will it last? Moderate to heavy rain may produce urban and poor drainage flooding from late Saturday through Sunday night, especially in areas farther south, said the National Weather Service. There is also a low chance for minor flooding on some of the flashier rivers and streams across northeast New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley, and southern Connecticut. Snow Showers Will Be Followed By Heavy Rain, Chance Of Flooding
There could be some slick conditions during the Friday evening commute with light snow and snow showers now falling in parts of the area.Little or no accumulation is expected. A new storm system will move through the area late Saturday afternoon through Sunday night, but temperatures will be warm enough -- in the upper 40s during the day and lower 40s at night -- to ensure all rain will fall. Six Saved After Hudson Valley House Is Caught In Ice Jam
Six residents were rescued without injuries by firefighters in Orange County after their home was overrun with ice chunks and water, according to state Department of Transportation on Twitter. Shortly after the flooding began around 2 p.m. Friday, the DOT, along with the New York State Police closed Route 209 in Westbrookville due to the ice jam and flooding. The road is closed from Pine Kill road and Port Orange Road as officials work to break up an 8-foot wall of ice, state DOT officials said. Flood Watch In Effect: Rainfall Up To 3 Inches, Dense Fog
Heavy rain, combined with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 50s and plenty of melting snow, could lead to widespread flooding on Friday. A Flood Watch that includes Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess and Orange counties issued by the National Weather Service is in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday. Rain that will be arriving in the area early Friday, combined with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 50s and plenty of melting snow, could lead to widespread flooding.
