Strong winds from Tropical Depression Debby continued to wreak havoc on New York and the Hudson Valley into Friday evening, Aug. 9. In the Northern Westchester County village of Ossining, police said downed trees had knocked out power to homes and businesses south of Charter Circle near Highland Avenue. An overnight storm that slammed the region with powerful wind gusts forced a Northern Westchester school district to implement a two-hour delay after buses were unable to reach some students. The Valhalla Union Free School District was forced to operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday, Feb. 29 as a result of downed trees and power lines that blocked several bus routes in the hamlet, officials announced. The remnants of Hurricane Barry brought severe thunderstorms to the region that resulted in torrential downpours causing flooding, damaging winds, downed trees, and one confirmed fatality.
