CDC Reportedly Reduces Scope Of Foodborne Illness Tracking The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has scaled back a major foodborne illness surveillance program, according to a new report. More Than 400 Sickened In McDonald's Salad Outbreak The foodborne outbreak linked to McDonald's salads is growing and has now sickened 436 people in 16 states, including Connecticut, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The outbreak involves Fresh Express items used in the McDonald's salads that were contaminated with the parasite Cyclospora. Salads, Wraps Sold By Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Other Stores Recalled Some salad and wrap products from several large retailers, including Trader Joe's and Walgreens, have been recalled due to concerns of Cyclospora contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced. The beef, pork and poultry salad and wrap products were distributed by Caito Foods LLC. The problem was discovered when Caito Foods received notification from its lettuce supplier, Fresh Express, that the chopped romaine that is used to manufacture some of their salads and wraps was being recalled.
