Man Critical After Lighting Himself On Fire Near Hudson River, Police Say
A man is in critical condition after pouring gasoline all over himself and setting himself on fire at an area park overlooking the Hudson River.
The incident took place around 2:20 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, in Dutchess County at Waryas Park in the City of Poughkeepsie, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark, of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
According to Clark, city 911 received multiple calls reporting a man set himself on fire near the shore at the park.
Responding officers found the victim, a 31-year-old Wappinger Falls man, with severe burns to his head, back, and arms, Clark said.

Man Dies After Jumping From Bridge In Area
A local man was killed after he jumped from an area bridge.
The incident took place around 6:05 p.m., Saturday, April 24 in Dutchess County when 37-year-old Brendan J. Paredes, of Wappinger, jumped from the bridge on the Walkway Over the Hudson in the City of Poughkeepsie, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks.
State Police, New York State Park Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department all responded to the bridge in an attempt to rescue Paredes, Hicks said.

Area Duo Sentenced For Selling Fentanyl That Led To At Least Four Deaths, Feds Say
Two area men have been sentenced to prison in connection with the fentanyl overdose deaths of four people.
Frank Moss, aka "Jigga," a Poughkeepsie drug dealer who sold fentanyl to two women who later died, was sentenced to almost 22 years in prison, said Geoffrey S. Berman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Arnold Melendez, aka "Frankie," another Poughkeepsie drug dealer, who sold fentanyl leading to the overdose deaths of two men, was sentenced to almost 16 years in prison, Berman said.

Man Busted For Drugs, Gun Possession Following Raid In Area
A 36-year-old man was arrested following a raid on his home in which officers allegedly found a gun, drugs, and cash.
Jason Hood, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was arrested early Tuesday, Dec. 10, when members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit, Emergency Services Unit, and the ATF executed a search warrant at his Maple Street home, said Sgt. Terrence Beam.
The search warrant was executed after an investigation into the sales of controlled substances from that location, he added.

Man, Woman Nabbed With Loaded Firearm During Town of Poughkeepsie Traffic Stop, Police Say
A man and a woman one who tried to flee from police were arrested following a traffic stop for alleged criminal possession of a loaded weapon.
The incident took place around 12:45 a.m., Friday, July 26, when Town of Poughkeepsie Police officers stopped a vehicle on Main Street, said the Lt. Michael O’Dowd.
During the stop, officers located a loaded firearm inside the vehicle and arrested Shaquille D. Heirs, 25, and Angelica D. Scott, 28, both of Poughkeepsie, O'Dowd said.

Anthony Abbott, 36, of Wappingers Falls, was arraigned on Monday, July 8, on two counts of first-degree murder, second-degree, murder, robbery, and burglary, said Dutchess County District Attorney William Grady.
