Northern Westchester Student-Athlete Dies At 17 After Battling Cancer A student-athlete who was entering his senior year at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers has died after a battle with cancer. Brendan James Maguire, 17, of Patterson died on Monday, Aug 20. He had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma 14 months ago. He played both basketball and baseball at Kennedy Catholic, where his courage and faith, displayed throughout his illness, inspired all those around him. Ketcham high schools, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 30, at his home in Poughkeepsie. The cause of his death has not been released.
