Peekskill Legend Elton Brand Named NBA GM One of the most accomplished athletes to ever play high school sports in the Hudson Valley is moving to the front office.After a 17-year NBA career, 1997 Peekskill High School graduate Elton Brand is expected to be named general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. Brand, who played five seasons with the 76ers, is currently the team's vice president of basketball operations after serving as GM of the Sixers' G League affiliate in Delaware. Northern Westchester Student-Athlete Dies At 17 After Battling Cancer A student-athlete who was entering his senior year at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers has died after a battle with cancer. Brendan James Maguire, 17, of Patterson died on Monday, Aug 20. He had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma 14 months ago. He played both basketball and baseball at Kennedy Catholic, where his courage and faith, displayed throughout his illness, inspired all those around him.
