Open to the public for a year, the land trust has transferred full ownership of the park to the city at no cost, and Peekskill in turn has agreed to abide by a conservation easement on the property in perpetuity, the mayor added.
Peekskill Landing Park is the first phase of the city’s $8.3 million parkland redevelopment on the Hudson River waterfront. The new 4.4-acre park includes a floating dock for nonmotorized watercraft, a kayak launch, boardwalk, gazebo, trellis, sculptures, natural paths, footbridge and other amenities.
Construction of the park was a joint venture between the city and Scenic Hudson, a classic example of a successful public-private partnership, the mayor added.
Funding to build the park was secured through grants awarded by Empire State Development, the New York Department of State, the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the state Department of Environmental Conservation, with matching funds coming from the city of Peekskill.
"This past year has seen extensive use of the park by the public, with excellent feedback on the design and beauty of the park from all who visit," Catalina said.
The park is open every day of the year and is located over the railroad tracks at Hudson Avenue, just north of Riverfront Green Park.
