PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- There are plenty of governmental, educational and recreational events happening this week in the city.
MONDAY
- A committee of the whole meeting will be held at Peekskill City Hall at 6:30 p.m. in the Paul Schwerman conference room.
- The Quiet Man will host Ireland's own The Druids from 8-10 p.m. The $20 admission goes towards funding this year's Hudson Valley Irish Festival.
TUESDAY
- The Peekskill City School District Board of Education will hold a business meeting at the administration center at 5:30 p.m. An executive session is usually immediately called and the public session usually resumes at approximately 7 p.m.
- The Field Library will have a "Tuesday Tales" book club for children ages 3 to 5 at 11 a.m. and a "Check It Out" book club for older kids at 4:30 p.m.
- The Paramount Center for the Arts presents a screening of a live performance of the opera "Otello," based on the classic play Othello, at 6 p.m. The opera is sung in Italian with English subtitles and is 2 hours 22 minutes long plus one intermission. General admission is $20.
WEDNESDAY
- The Field Library will have a "Book Babies" book club for children ages 3 and under at 11 a.m.
THURSDAY
- The Historic and Landmarks Preservation Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Peekskill City Hall in the common council chambers.
- The Peekskill High School art department will have their artwork on display in the art room starting on Thursday.
- 12 Grapes will host a sessions event with saxman and vocalist JP Patrick and his band from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. as they rehearse, work and play for each other. Admission is free for patrons.
- The Birdsall House will host a free performance by Derek Dempsey at 10 p.m.
FRIDAY
- The Peekskill City School District will have a superintendent's conference day and there will be no school for students except for Oakside Elementary School students. Those students are to report to school as usual.
