Westchester's Captain Lawrence Promises 'Mother Load' Of A Food Fest
ELMSFORD, N.Y. -- Like oysters? Then check out the Mother Shucker end of summer bash at Captain Lawrence Brewery in Elmsford. This is the sixth year the festival has taken place. The event is basically an ode to summer's bounty and includes copious amount of oysters, wood roasted seafood, Neapolitan pizza, and carnage supplied by Chef David DiBari of The Cookery and The Parlor in Dobbs Ferry. Westchester Set For Annual Jewish Music, Arts Festival
VALHALLA, N.Y. -- It's going to be a day filled with Jewish music. The 43rd Annual Westchester Jewish Music and Arts Festival will be held on Sunday, Aug. 20 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. The festival is presented by The Westchester Jewish Council and The Westchester Klezmer Program in cooperation with Westchester County Parks. The event will feature a wide variety of musical performances including headliner Golem, a Klezmer rock band based in New York City. SPCA Hoping To Clear The Shelter
The SPCA has more dogs and cats than usual, but are hoping a one-day event can help their animals find forever homes. The SPCA is taking part in NBC's Clear the Shelters on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Briarcliff location at 590 North State Road. As part of the event, many of the animal's adoption fees will be waived. All the same rules and criteria involved in approving an adopter/adoption will be in place. VERPLANCK, N.Y. -- For 95 years, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel has been a celebration of Italian heritage in Verplanck. The annual feast was held in July, having been held every summer in 1922, organized by people who came to Verplanck from Calabria, Italy. It is always held the third weekend of July. Yorktown Celebrates 175th Anniversary Of Old Croton Dam, Aqueduct
YORKTOWN, N.Y. --Water first flowed from the Old Croton Dam and Aqueduct to New York City on July 4, 1842. To celebrate its 175th anniversary, Hilltop Hanover is hosting four presentations and a ceremony commemorating the Old Croton Dam and Aqueduct and the contributions of the people who helped build the Croton Water System. Bob Giordano, who helped plan the event, said he has been studying the water system for 25 years. He had the good fortune of being neighbors with Bob Waterhouse, who worked for the Department of Environmental Protection for 40 years and will be one of the presenters. …
