Heat Wave: These Westchester Beaches, Pools To Open On Weekdays
To help residents cool off during a week of sweltering temperatures, several county-owned beaches and pools in Westchester will be open.
During the heatwave, which is predicted to begin on Tuesday, June 18, and continue through Saturday, June 22, temperatures in the 90s and high humidity are expected, according to weather officials.

As the temperatures get warmer, Westchester residents will soon be able to cool off at several county-owned beaches and pools that will soon open.
Beginning on Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27, Croton Point Beach in Croton-on-Hudson and Glen Island Beach in New Rochelle will open on a pre-season basis, Westchester County Parks announced.
Following this, both beaches will open on weekends and holidays only until Sunday, June 23. Glen Island Beach will then open daily and Croton Point Beach will open Wednesday through Sundays beginning on Saturday, June 29 through Monday, Sept. 2…
Briarcliff Native Who Was All-America Collegiate Athlete Dies At Age 48
A Northern Westchester native who was a standout athlete in both high school and college has died.
Alison Relyea, who grew up in Briarcliff and graduated in 1992 from the Hackley School in Tarrytown, was 48 years old, according to her obituary.
She died on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Evelyn’s House hospice facility in Creve Coeur, Missouri. For the past 11 years, she lived in Chesterfield, Missouri, her obituary said.
She graduated from Gettysburg College in 1996 and the University of Maryland School of Nursing, where she received her BSN degree, in 1998.

Woman In Distress Swimming Rescued From Long Island Sound
Emergency responders rescued a woman who was in distress while swimming in the Long Island Sound.
The incident happened early Sunday morning, July 18 in Suffolk County, off Shoreham Beach in Shoreham.
A woman called 911 to report that her friend, Johanna Scheiber, 21, of Sayville, was swimming in the sound and the caller, who was on Shoreham Beach, lost sight of Scheiber at approximately 6:50 a.m.

Covid-19: 'Lower Risk' NY HS Sports Can Practice, Play Within Region Only, Cuomo Announces
New York high school sports deemed as “low risk” have been given the green light to begin play next month, though higher-risk sports with full physical contact may only continue to practice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During a COVID-19 briefing on Monday, Aug. 24, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that lower-risk sports such as tennis, soccer, cross country, field hockey, and swimming in all regions may continue to practice and start play beginning on Monday, Sept. 21.
