A stretch of a busy Hudson Valley road was temporarily closed to traffic following a crash that resulted in a large oil spill, police said. The incident happened in Putnam County on Wednesday, May 15, when a crash occurred on Route 6 in Mahopac between Crane and Washington Roads, Carmel Police announced around 12:15 p.m.  The crash caused a large oil spill that had to be cleaned up by hazmat teams and area fire departments.  No injuries were reported in the incident. Oil Truck Crashes Down Embankment, Causing Fuel Leak In Area An oil tanker crashed down an embankment, causing a fuel leak that firefighters are still busy soaking up. The crash took place around 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, in Putnam Valley on Hollowbrook Road, officials said. The driver was not injured, but firefighters with the Putnam Valley Department are using absorbent pads to stop the oil from leaking into the nearby Hollow Brook, the department said. Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department and Montrose VA Fire Department and the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services Hazmat Team assisted with the call.
