Years after a crash that left a man dead near a Northern Westchester bicycle trail, a 41-year-old woman has been accused of fleeing the scene after hitting him, police announced. Bronx resident Glenys Manana-Rodriguez surrendered herself to Yorktown Police on Monday, Sept. 16 on charges connected to a fatal crash that happened within the town in August 2020, the department announced on Thursday, Sept. 19. Large Black Bear Spotted Near North County Trailway In Millwood
Authorities are warning residents to take precautions after a large black bear was seen near a popular trailway in Northern Westchester. In an announcement on Monday, June 3, the New Castle Police Department said the bear was seen in the area of the North County Trailway in Millwood. Despite the sighting, the bear will only be encouraged to leave the area if it creates a public disturbance, acts aggressively toward a human or pet, tries to enter a home, or is injured and cannot move to escape, according to New York State Environmental Conservation guidelines. Westchester Land Trust Completes Easement to Protect Stuart’s Fruit Farm
Westchester Land Trust (WLT) closed a conservation easement on Monday, April 16 to protect Stuart’s Fruit Farm in Somers. The project -- which took a decade to complete -- is valued at almost $3 million. WLT’s partners included New York state, Westchester County, Scenic Hudson Land Trust, the Town of Somers and Somers Land Trust. The conservation easement blocks development rights on the farm’s 172 acres thereby ensuring the land remains available for agricultural use in perpetuity.
