Local Police Officer In Region Suspended Following Arrest
A police officer in Fairfield County charged with illegally possessing explosives and an assault weapon has been placed on leave. David Rivera of the New Canaan PD was charged on Thursday, April 28, in his hometown of Stratford after quantities of high explosives were found improperly stored in his home, said Joseph T. Corradino, Fairfield State's Attorney. Police Shoot, Kill Dog During Violent Attack In New Canaan
A member of the New Canaan Police Department was forced to fatally shoot a dog who posed a potential threat to local residents and would not stop attacking a neighbor's canine. A New Canaan resident made an emergency call to police shortly before noon on Saturday, June 16, where she “frantically stated that her dog was being violently attacked by an unknown dog” in her backyard.
