Fire Tears Through Northern Westchester Residence Amid Dense Fog, Rain Firefighters endured rain and heavy fog while battling a blaze at a Northern Westchester residence that left the home damaged.  The fire broke out on Wednesday, Jan. 24 around 6:30 p.m., when flames ignited at a residence in Yorktown in the area of Hardwood Place and Hanover Street.  With the help of mutual aid from departments from Croton-on-Hudson and Mahopac, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and put out hot spots.  The response to the blaze took several hours. The cause of the fire was not released.

Matthew Kiernan, of Mahopac, was arrested around 1 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 3, after Yorktown Police officers responded to a one-vehicle crash on Hanover Street, said Yorktown Police Sgt. These 10 Roads Will Be Closed During Yorktown Grange Fair, Tractor Parade There will be several road closures over the weekend as the Yorktown Grange Fair hosts its annual Tractor Parade. The Yorktown Police Department issued an alert advising motorists that at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, the parade will kick off at the Yorktown Fire Department fairgrounds on Veterans Road, continuing through Commerce Street to Hanover Street, before concluding at the Grande Fair grounds on Moseman Avenue. Where's The Bear? Bruin In Yorktown On Run, Spotted Near Restaurant This story has been updated. A bear making the rounds in Northern Westchester has left his perch in a tree and is on the run. A reader said she just saw the bear on Route 118/129 near Jennifer's Restaurant. Yorktown Police said the bear was first spotted around noon up a tree on Hanover Street in Yorktown.  Residents are urged to use caution when outdoors in the area.
