Led by a strong showing downstate, New York is well-represented on U.S. News & World Report's brand-new rankings of the nation's best high schools. The rankings were released on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Ex-HS Coach From Tarrytown Sentenced For Raping Teen Girl
A former assistant varsity coach in Westchester has been sentenced for having sexual contact with a minor. Tyler Sick, the 30-year-old from Tarrytown who taught in New York City and acted as a wrestling coach at Edgemont High School, pleaded guilty in court on over the summer to two counts of rape after being accused of having sex with a teenage girl in Greenburgh in 2016. On Tuesday, Westchester District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced that Sick has been sentenced to 10 years probation. These Westchester Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
Some of Westchester County’s best and brightest students were among those chosen as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, which celebrates academic achievement in high school students. On Wednesday, 16,000 high school seniors were chosen from around the country. Those 16,000 will soon be pared to 7,500 finalists, who will be picked to receive upwards of $31 million in scholarships, which will be announced next spring as they prepare to continue their educations in college. Former HS Wrestling Coach In Westchester Admits To Raping Teen Girl
A former assistant varsity wrestling coach in Westchester has pleaded guilty to two felony counts of rape. Tyler Sick, the 30-year-old Tarrytown man who taught in New York and acted as a coach at Edgemont High School, pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday after being accused of raping a teenage girl in Greenburgh in 2016. According to the complaint filed in Greenburgh Town Court, Sick had been involved with illegal sexual contact with a minor, which led to a joint police investigation. 18-Year-Old Sentenced For Killing Westchester Woman, 23, In Panama
An appeal is already in the works after a teenager tried as a juvenile received a 12-year prison sentence for strangling a 23-year-old Westchester woman to death in Panama last year. Catherine Johannet, a 2011 graduate of Edgemont High School, was found dead on Feb. 5, 2017 beside a trail on Isla Colon in Bastimentos after she had been reported as missing.
