Pilot Killed In NYC Crash Was Respected Ex-Fire Chief From Hudson Valley The helicopter pilot killed in a midtown Manhattan crash-landing Monday afternoon was conducting executive travel and headed back to a New Jersey airport, reports say. Tim McCormack, a volunteer firefighter from Clinton Corners in Dutchess County in New York's Hudson Valley,  had taken off around 1:30 p.m. from the 34th Street heliport on the east side where he dropped his boss off and was en route to Linden Airport -- the Agusta A109E's home base -- before the crash, officials said. Pilot Killed In Helicopter Crash-Landing On Manhattan High-Rise From Hudson Valley, FAA Says A helicopter pilot who was killed while crashing-landing on the roof of a building Monday afternoon in midtown Manhattan was from Dutchess County, the FAA reported. Tim McCormack of Clinton Corners was the only victim in the crash. He was reported deceased 45 minutes later. His father and grandfather were Poughkeepsie firefighters. McCormack -- who received his instructor certificate for “Rotorcraft-Helicopter” last June -- had taken off from 34th Street Helipad just after 1:30 en route to Linden, NJ, the FAA said.
