Ossining's Saniya Chong Plays In National Game

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining basketball phenom Saniya Chong played well in her team's loss in the WBCA High School All-America Game at New Orleans Arena this weekend.

Chong had nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and a steal in 21 minutes but her Team Purple lost to Team Black 74-70, according to a report in the Journal Inquirer.

While in New Orleans Chong got to watch the University Connecticut female Huskies basketball team advance to the national championship game. Chong will be playing for UConn next year, according to the report.

Chong was the New York State Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The 5-foot-9 senior guard has led the Pride to a 20-4 record and the semifinals of the Class AA state playoffs against Sachem East, scheduled for Friday. Through 24 games, Chong is averaging 35.0 points, 9.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 2.1 blocked shots. She was named a First Team All-State selection and was chosen to play in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America Game.
