Ossining Girls Basketball Coach, Players Earn State-Wide Honors

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining High School girls basketball coach Dan Ricci earned Coach of the Year honors for New York from USA Today. Two Ossining players also won individual honors.

Jalay Knowles, a senior, was named to New York’s first team by the daily newspaper. Shadeen Samuels, a junior, was named to the second team.

Ossining finished 23-3 and won the Class AA girls basketball championship. Ricci won his 400th career game in February, and has guided the team to five straight Section 1 titles and three consecutive public school Class AA championships.

Knowles averaged 23.1 points and 10.4 rebounds. She will attend the University of Hartford. Samuels averaged 19.4 points and 6.2 rebounds.
