Cortland's Tompkins, Gruber Earn Football Honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- SUNY Cortland football players and seniors Connor Tompkins, a Sleepy Hollow alumnus and Ossining resident, and Westlake graduate Steven Gruber were selected to the All New Jersey Athletic Conference second team.

Tompkins, also a defensive lineman, missed the first two games of the regular season because of an injury. When he returned, Tompkins started the final nine games and finished with 41 tackles, including a team-leading 12.5 for a loss. He also recorded six sacks, recovered two fumbles and forced a fumble. Gruber, a defensive lineman, started 11 games and finished with 43 tackles, including 18 solo and nine for a loss. Gruber collected four sacks, totaling 34 yards, blocked a kick and had a defensive lineman’s dream -- an interception, which he returned 45 yards.
