OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining schools Superintendent Raymond Sanchez is being honored with a Friendship Award by The Changing Suburbs Institute, a collaborative initiative of Manhattanville College and the surrounding community.

Sanchez is being recognized by the institute, which is in its 10th year, for his “early, consistent support of our goals and programs” and commitment to improving education opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse students, said Anita Nordal, assistant dean for community outreach at Manhattanville College School of Education.

Sanchez, a student in the doctoral program at Manhattanville, helped establish the college’s Professional Development School at Claremont School. He was instrumental in creating the Manhattanville Excellence in Teaching Academy at Park Early Childhood Center, an innovative masters/certification program in which students spend a year as apprentices. Sanchez also is being honored for his strong support of the work of the group’s Hispanic Parents Leadership Institute.

The Changing Suburbs Institute focuses on teacher and school-leadership development, parent education and collaborating with the community. It has partnerships with more than a dozen schools in the region. The institute is recognizing Sanchez Tuesday, April 21 at its 10th Annual Educational Forum.

“We are grateful to Ray for his dedication to the CSI mission and to his willingness to deepen the partnership between Ossining Schools and Manhattanville College,” Nordal said.

The institute also is honoring Marguerite Clarkson, interim assistant superintendent in Greenburgh, and Maria Flores, community school coordinator at Edison School in Port Chester.
