OSSINING, N.Y. -- Two Ossining High School sophomores have received the 5th Annual First-In-Family College Prep Scholarship, which is designed to prepare motivated and committed sophomores who will be the first in their family to attend college.
Nicole Castillo and Dainty Owusu Fordjour, who were awarded the scholarships Friday, will receive personalized tutoring in general study skills, test prep for the SAT and ACT and college admissions guidance services during their sophomore, junior and senior years.
Jeannette Gerber, founder of Smart Test Prep in Ossining, and Jane Klemmer, founder of Klemmer Educational Consulting in Briarcliff Manor, created the scholarship in 2011. Their organizations will provide the services to the scholarship winners.
To qualify for the scholarship, sophomores have to be exceptionally motivated and committed to investing time and effort into their studies, activities and the college search and application process. They are required to be hard workers and have an excellent attendance record.
