OSSINING, N.Y. -- A new initiative is allowing many Ossining children the chance to get a lot of summer reading done.
Ossining has launched seven lending libraries at locations throughout the village, where children are encouraged to read donated books and talk about them with their families.
“Children may choose to take a book home with them. Most importantly, we want children reading and discussing literature,” Superintendent Raymond Sanchez said. “We want to see students turning the pages of books.”
Members of the district’s ACTION committee worked with local businesses to set up the locations and secured books. Ossining Girl Scout troops help maintain and sort books for the libraries. To donate books for the lending libraries, contact James Lucas at 914-941- 7700, ext. 1332.
The locations are: Starbucks, Great Clips, McDonald’s, Arcadian Barber Shop, Briar Laundroma, Landmark Diner and River Side Laundromat
