More than 1,200 people attended Kasich's Town Hall ahead of New York's April 19 primary. This is the first time a New York primary has impacted the presidential race since 1988.
Anatasia Giannakakos, an Iona student from Danbury, got the chance to ask Kasich a question about ensuring women have equality in the workplace. Giannakakos, a senior, is majoring in political science and planning to move to Washington DC upon graduation.
"It's a very hot button issue for me," Giannakakos said after the town hall. "I'm entering into a male dominated field."
Giannakakos said she was now a Kasich supporter.
"It was a surreal experience," Giannakakos said. "This was a once in a lifetime opportunity."
Gabby Barreiro, a White Plains high school student, dragged her parents to hear Kasich speak.
"It was cool to see him in person," Barreiro said. "This is the first election that's really impacted us."
Barreiro said she is passionate about equality for women.
Mike McNamara, a Yonkers resident, said he was a supporter of Kasich because he is very reasonable.
"He has put forth practical solutions and he has a lot of good experience," McNamara said.
Ceire Kealy, a sophomore at Iona said she hadn't decided on who she supports, but wanted to attend a political event.
"This is my first presidential town hall," Kealy said. "I wanted to seize the opportunity."
Kealy said she cares about the economy and wanted to hear Kasich offer something substantive on the issue .
Dave Clemens, a Trump supporter and New Rochelle resident, said he was interested in what Kasich had to say.
"We haven't had a chance to see anybody," Clemens said. "I like that he does so many town halls. He seems honest."
Clemens said he supported Trump because he was sick of Washington politicians.
"If you look past the bravado and machismo, I think Donald Trump will do a good job," Clemens said.
Anne Beneficio, a Pound Ridge resident, said she is undecided heading into the primary but jumped at the chance to attend her first presidential town hall.
"It's exciting how important our primary is," Beneficio, an Iona graduate, said.
