This committee discusses all matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems, including criminal justice planning, law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security, community crime prevention, juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, emergency management, fire prevention and control, and civil disturbances.

Borgia will be working toward completion of NACo’s “Safe and Secure Counties” initiative to showcase current policies on everything from emergency preparedness to jails and courts, infrastructure and transportation to public health.

Westchester County has had several incidents in its correction system over the last few months, and Borgia’s exposure to other systems around the country will be an asset in dealing with such incidents.

“There is no doubt that Westchester County needs to do a better job of delivering corrections services than it has in the recent past," Borgia stated. "The issues tackled by this committee will be helpful to come up with innovative solutions that both accomplish the goals at hand and minimize the costs to taxpayers, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that challenge with colleagues from across the country."

Members of the committee are expected to participate in monthly conference calls and attend both NACo’s Legislative and Annual Conference.
