Catherine Borgia's Heart Is In Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Few people have been involved in their community more than Legislator Catherine Borgia, who represents District 9.

Borgia, who is running for re-election for a second term, has served on the Ossining village board and was supervisor of the Town of Ossining.

"I am running for re-election to continue my public service to the residents of the Ossining, Briarcliff, Croton, Cortlandt and Peekskill communities that I represent," Borgia said. "This district is such a diverse and eclectic portion of Westchester, and I am proud to fight for the needs of the families, seniors, young people, veterans and individuals who live here."

Borgia has lived in Ossining since 1991 and said she loves the sense of community in Ossining and the other municipalities in her district.

"We have the best of both worlds: a smalltown feel with much economic, geographic and ethnic diversity," Borgia said. "In Ossining and the surrounding communities, we have very deep connections to each other:  It's like everyone is each other's next-door neighbor."

Borgia said she loves dining out in Ossining, enjoying the Mexican food at Los Abuelos and bringing her family to Wobble Cafe. She also said she enjoys The Boathouse and the Goldfish.

"We love to try the many tucked-away Portugese and Latin American restaurants," Borgia said. "That does not even begin to touch the delicious restaurants in Briarcliff, Croton, Cortlandt and Peekskill."

Aside from her public service, Borgia has co-founded the Ossining Microfund, and serves on the Ossining Rotary, the Junior League of Northern Westchester, Ossining Communities that Care and the Teatown Advisory Board.

In the past, Borgia was a leader in the PTAs and the Girl Scouts, and  taught religious education at my parish of St. Augustine's.

"Ossining has grown and prospered, successfully faced challenges and issues, and continues to find opportunities to enhance the future of this marvelous community," Borgia said. "I am so grateful to have had the opportunity contributed to Ossining, not only in a public service role, but as a mom, a volunteer and a neighbor.  I will always fight for and work for the people of Ossining."

District 9 covers Peekskill, Ossining, Cortlandt and Briarcliff.
