Working with the Ossining School District, Carlucci identified the needs facing parents, teachers and students. The Ossining School District has seen a nearly 15 percent increase in enrollment and a 25 percent increase in the number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunches.
This formula re-calibration means that the SED will take into account the unique nature of districts such as the Ossining School District when distributing funding. Unique factors can include rising enrollment or increased poverty. Additionally, schools across New York are expected to receive $1.65 billion in school aid, which is a $700 million increase when compared to the Executive budget proposal.
"The educational futures of our children should not be burdened by politics. I am proud that the Senate one-house directs the State Education Department to re-calibrate the funding formula so that districts like Ossining that face unique challenges get their fair share of funding. I will work to ensure that this one-house budget proposal makes it into the final state budget and would encourage all Ossining residents to continue their advocacy," said Carlucci.
