OSSINGING, N.Y. – An officer at Sing Sing Correctional Facility was charged Tuesday following a several-month investigation into allegations he struck a male inmate.
According to the New York State Police, troopers were contacted in May to investigate an allegation of excessive force used by one of the corrections officers.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined Lavar Thomas, 36, of New York City, an officer at Sing Sing allegedly struck a male inmate several times without provocation, causing minor physical injury.
New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks arrested Thomas and charged him with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, officials said.
Thomas was arraigned in Village of Ossining Court and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court Oct. 20.
