Ossining Police: Man Arrested After Car Fire

OSSINING, N.Y. – Village of Ossining Police say they have arrested a Yonkers man in connection with a car fire on Martin Road last Thursday.

Police arrested Jorge Morales, 18, and charged him with third-degree arson on a third-degree arson charge, a class C felony. Police say officers were dispatched around 1:05 a.m. on Aug. 23 to 19 Martin Road and discovered “flames coming from the gas fill area of a 2010 gray Nissan,” according to a news release. The officers then put out the fire with an extinguisher and notified the Ossining Fire Department.

“The officers observed a gas cap on the ground and burned cloth material coming from the tank,” according to the press release. “A witness described a male, wearing a black shirt and tan shorts near the car spraying what appeared to be some type of fluid. Shortly thereafter a fire resulted.”

After patrolling the area and gathering evidence, officers found Morales on the scene and detained him for questioning, according to the release. Morales was arrested on Aug. 25, was arraigned and bail was set at $50,000. He is in Westchester County Jail awaiting a hearing.

- Ossining Police responded to a report of a burglary around 4:20 p.m. on Aug. 24 at 101 Spring St. The residents said they left for work around 8 a.m. and when they returned after 4 p.m. they discovered one of their previously locked doors unlocked and that bedroom dresser drawers had been rummaged through and items of jewelry taken, according to a news release. Police say “there were no visible signs of forced entry” and the residents later reported they were missing a laptop computer, a tablet, a necklace, bracelet and rings. The incident is under investigation.
