OSSINING, N.Y. – New town and village of Ossining Police Chief Kevin Sylvester was sworn in Friday during an inauguration ceremony at the Ossining Public Library.
Sylvester, a 35-year-old Ossining native, replaces Joseph Burton, who retired after 48 years with the department.
“I want to thank everyone who came to the Ossining Public Library for Inauguration Day. Many of you were up late to see the ball drop and had other family obligations, but you carved out a little time (a lot of time) to join us and be a part of this important community event. I'm truly honored,” said Sylvester.
“I understand that I've been entrusted with a huge responsibility and I take that seriously. I will do everything I can to best serve the community and to make you proud,” he continued.
Sylvester is the first new chief since 1991.
