OSSINING, N.Y. -- New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks charged a man with identity theft last month after he tried buying two motorcycles in Ossining with a fake identity, according to officials.

Arthur V. Sherwood Jr., 29, of the Bronx allegedly used a fictitious identity to try buying two Suzuki motorcycles valued at more than $16,000 from Hudson Valley Motorcycles in October of last year, police said.

The employee helping Sherwood became suspicious when the suspect left the store before the line of credit was approved, police said.

Sherwood was arrested on Feb. 26 and charged with first-degree identity theft and attempted grand larceny, police said.
