Margot Dee Kunkel, 99; Former Ossining Resident, Was Active In Theater

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Margot Dee Kunkel died on  Sunday, Dec.  28, in Oakmont, Pa., at the age 99.

Kunkel was born in Ossining on June 11, 1915, the daughter of Leo J. and Angela Volker Dee. She lived on South Highland Avenue until her marriage to Francis J. Kunkel of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Kunkel was a 1933 graduate of Ossining High School and a 1937 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University where she earned her bachelor's degree in drama. She was active in community theater for most of her life. She was a charter member of the Penn Hills Players, which was founded in 1956, and she acted and directed with them for many years. She also directed plays at Apple Hill Playhouse in Delmont, Pa., Sherwood Forest Theater in Murrysville, Pa., and Stage Right in Greensburg, Pa. 

She wrote book reviews for the Pittsburgh Press and was a feature writer for Dardanell Publications in Penn Hills, Pa. She was also a staff writer at the Ossining Citizen Register from 1944-46.

She was predeceased by her husband.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Kunkel Podorson (Roy) of Wilmington, Del. and Margaret A. Vargo (Keith) of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
