MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Louis E. "Lou" Rose of Mahopac, formerly of Ossining, died May 5. He was 96.
Rose was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Ossining, to Louis and Pellegrina (Giorgio) Rose. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He owned and operated Ossining Bowling Lanes, worked for the New York Central Railroad, NY Medical College and the County of Westchester. He was a life-member of the Moose Lodge 1460, the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was post commander from 1987 to 1989, and the American Legion.
Rose is survived by his brother, Nicholas (Muriel) of Raleigh, N.C.; sons, David (Gail) of East Stroudsburg, Pa., Thomas (Karen) of Cresco, Pa., Stephen (Cathy) of Newburgh, William (Bliss) of Alpharetta, Ga., and Kenneth (Marie) of Ft. Myers, Fla.; daughter, Theresa of Mahopac; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 9 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Leach & Thomas, Inc., 32 State St., Ossining. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Friday, May 9 at St. Ann's Church, in Ossining. Interment will be at St. Augustine's Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William Koehler Senior Center of Mahopac.
