OSSINING, N.Y. -- Genevieve (Jean) Babiar, 98, died recently in Ossining.
Babiar was born in Yonkers, on Sept. 3, 1916 to Charles and Mary Kopec. She was married in St. Casimir’s Church in Yonkers on Nov. 21, 1945 to John P. Babiar, who predeceased her in 1991.
She and her husband owned Dolega Photo Studio in Yonkers. After living in Yonkers for many years, Jean moved to Ossining to be with her family. Babiar loved to laugh, drive, travel, vote, watch CNN, play cards and eat sweets.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Babiar, of White Plains and Joan Brown of Peekskill; 3 grandchildren, Allison (Andy Eisen), Mark and Laura; and her sister Florence Zaniewski.
The New York State Veterans Home at Montrose took great care of Jean, since 2011, and in her final days.
Visitation will be at The Dorsey Funeral Home on Wednesday Aug. 12 from 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. at the St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church, Yonkers. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
